About Kind To Earth Soapery

I, Mette, am a mother to three wonderful and unique children, a wife to a loving and supportive husband, and a grandmother to four amazing grandchildren. We are originally from Norway but have lived on Gran Canaria since 2006. Here, we work in our own company, VaktmesterGeir, providing property maintenance services.

In the spring of 2024, our son Christoffer (30) lost his life in a tragic accident in the Stryn mountains while out hiking in this beautiful mountain landscape. Losing a child is one of the most traumatic experiences a mother can go through. Your whole life is turned upside down, you enter a complete emotional vacuum, and you struggle simply to survive. Life will never be the same again. At the same time, you know you have to keep going. It is not just about yourself, but also about the people and family around you. For me, soapmaking became my lifeline, along with immersing myself in the world of natural ingredients and the desire to create something beautiful, not only for myself but also for others who might benefit from it.

This is how the idea was born. I continued to explore the traditional, old-fashioned art of handmade soapmaking, and decided to create soaps that are as kind to the earth as they are to the skin. I also continue to develop other natural products.

All products are created with the intention of being gentle and kind to the skin, and I have a particular fondness for people with allergies and special skin needs.
The products from Kind To Earth Soapery were never created with commercial interests as the starting point. Everything began with ideas for products that I personally needed and use every day. But being able to share them with others who think along the same lines gives me great pleasure. I also notice that more and more people are becoming conscious of what we put both on and into our bodies.
I want to use only a few carefully selected ingredients that I personally feel comfortable using every day. That is why I make these products myself, so I have control over the substances and ingredients I use on my own body.
I have also chosen to make all products in accordance with the European laws and standards that apply within Europe. This means that all formulations are assessed and approved, with a report issued by an approved laboratory. All my products are then registered in the EU portal, where all such products sold within the EU must be registered.

Family and friends have been involved in testing the soaps. Friends have been invited into my home to see and try the soaps, so they have been thoroughly tested on real people, not on animals, of course. I have always had a particular interest in friends with problem skin, and a passion for creating soaps that they can use too.

And although the journey of Kind To Earth Soapery began with a tragic accident, something good has come from it. Many people with skin problems have found my soaps to be very gentle and kind to their skin.
Several people have told me that they struggle to find skin-friendly products without experiencing reactions or itching, but that they tolerate my soaps very well.

I have also developed several products that I am very proud of, such as body butters made with beautiful oils and butters, as well as essential oils. I do not use synthetic perfumes. I must also mention my oils: a facial oil and a hair oil. These have been very well received and are now used daily by many people. I felt the need for more moisture on my face, without perfume, as that can only make things worse. So instead, I created a lovely facial oil that smooths, softens and provides the face with plenty of nourishment and moisture.
The hair oil nourishes and moisturises the hair without making it greasy. It also helps tame all those little flyaway hairs that insist on going in every possible direction.
I have also developed a deodorant without aluminium-based antiperspirant salts. Development continues, and at the time of writing, I am working on shampoo bars based on herbal powders and oils that benefit the hair and scalp. These also use essential oils rather than synthetic perfumes, and one version will be completely fragrance-free.
Lip balms, salves and hair pomade (for men) are also products I am currently working on.

Everything is made using oils and butters. I do not make creams because they contain water, which means preservatives must also be added, and that is something I prefer to avoid. As long as a product consists of oils or butters, there is no need to add preservatives. Vitamin E can be used to help prevent the oils from going rancid. I only use natural vitamin E when I include it.
With a simple philosophy that nature provides everything we need for health and beauty, the journey continues. My project goes on, and my goal is to make use of the power of natural ingredients and create products that are natural, gentle on the earth and the human body, and that offer a little feeling of luxury while being environmentally friendly.
The latest development is that we have now installed solar panels, meaning that all production is powered by solar energy.
